چکیده
Detection, Synchronization, Channel Estimation and Capacity in UWB Sensor Networks using Compressed Sensing by Shao-Yuan Chen Chair: Wayne E. Stark Conventional receivers in ultrawideband (UWB) communication system usually require high sampling rate and thus consume much power. With compressed sensing (CS), the sampling rate can potentially be reduced. In this thesis, the performance of CS used in a UWB receiver is evaluated. Using a compressed sensing approach, the receiver consists of a number of analog correlators that process the received signal by projecting the received signal using random (or pseudo random) vectors. Considering the practical implementation in the receiver, the orthogonal Hadamard vectors in the correlators are adopted. After projection, the matching pursuit or basis pursuit is used to obtain the channel estimate. The recovered channel templates are then correlated with received signal to detect the transmitted information bits. The bit error rate (BER) performance of systems with different number of pilots, projection vectors, and fingers in a rake receiver is also evaluated. Moreover, the performance of different receivers and the effect of the finite bit resolution on channel estimation is investigated. It is shown that the sampling rate can be reduced significantly with only a slight degradation in performance when a compressed projection

متن کاملCompressed Sensing: Ultra-Wideband Channel Estimation Based on FIR Filtering Matrix
Ultra-wideband (UWB) communication (Win & Scholtz, 1998; Yang & Giannakis, 2004a) is a fast emerging technology since the Federal Communication Commission released a spectral mask in the spring of 2002. The major reason for UWB technology to receive much attention is its promising ability to provide low-power consumption, high bit rate and multipath resolution, and coexist with the narrow-band ...
متن کاملCompressed Sensing and its Applications in UWB Communication Systems
Ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems can be used as overlay over existing systems due to their large absolute bandwidth and low power spectral density. But realization of UWB systems has been obstructed due to present state of art of A/D converters that are not able to meet the high sampling rate requirement of UWB systems. Compressed sensing appears to be a natural solution to develop sy...

Modern applications of signal processing problems arising in sensor networks require efficient sensing of multi-dimensional data or phenomena. In this context it becomes important to understand fundamental performance limits of both sensing and communication between sensors. In this paper we focus primarily on sensing aspects. We propose the notion of sensing capacity to characterize the perfor...
متن کاملA Compressive Sensing Signal Detection for Uwb Radar
A major challenge in UWB signal processing is the requirement for very high sampling rate under Shannon-Nyquist sampling theorem which exceeds the current ADC capacity. Radar signal is essentially a delayed and scaled version of the transmitted pulse, determined by sparse parameters such as time delays and amplitudes. A system for sampling UWB radar signal at an ultralow sampling rate based on ...
